How to make your weaknesses work for you

How to Make your Weaknesses Work for You

Weaknesses

Strengths and Weaknesses

I was quite surprised when I found out what my strengths are and also it enabled me to do some work on what things that work less well for me. Here’s a link to my strengths video and a video on my weaknesses below. They are about self care and organisation.

I’m pretty determined to work with my weaknesses so that they become strengths and help me get my goals.

If I look after myself and become organised, I’m pretty sure that this will help me hugely and I’ve known that for a long time. So I’m on a clean food diet and also have committed to spending 1/2 hour a day tidying the house and office

Let me know your weaknesses and how you are going to turn them around. Let me know if you’d like me to help you in any way by ringing 07973 635102 or contacting me here.

I’m running a Master Mind group in January which would be of help if you are in the S Wales area and will be running an on-line mastermind group soon – watch this space!

Until next week – turn them into strengths!

Do You Have a Fixed or a Growth Mindset?

Do you have a Fixed Mindset or a Growth Mindset?

Growth MIndset

Fixed or Growth Mindset?

I’ve been reading Carole Dweck’s book called “Mindset – the new psychology of success” recently and it has prompted me to look at my own mindset and develop a simple tool to decide which I have – A Fixed or a Growth Mindset – and  I would love to share it with you.

The trigger for this – I was in Sri Lanka a month or so ago and was feeling envious of some back packers that were passing by when our guide said to me “You are too old to go back packing! “ I felt defensive about it at the time and before I knew where I was, I had gathered my friends and colleagues to prove him wrong – At the time I thought this was a growth mindset, but when I sat and thought about it, it was more of a fixed mindset- an instinctive “he’s wrong and I’m right” reaction.

I realise what I need to do now is to reflect, ask advice, read books about older people going back packing and decide what I want to do. I’m still looking for people to join me though!!!!!!

Watch the video below, and look at the tool that I’ve developed as a result of thinking about it, you too can reflect and decide where you are and whether you are happy with your mindset, whether it is a fixed or a growth mindset or somewhere in between! Fixed or Growth Mindset

Here is the tool that I have developed –Fixed or Growth Mindset

Put a mark in between the two statements  and be honest. Some of mine were closer to the left hand side – the fixed mindset- (WHAT?????) and I have some homework to do going forward. I’ll pop my thoughts in my journal and share with you as well.

Sharing some of your reflections will help others in the spirit of that Growth Mindset!

Until next week, Happy Reflecting!

Dr Bridget

P.S. I’m developing some resources to share with people who would like to join my on-line community and I want to be sure I’m heading in the right direction and that the content I create is useful to YOU.

If you’re a business owner, could you please take 5 minutes to tell me what stands in your way?

What I need to know is this:

“When it comes to taking consistent action to move forward in your business, what’s the single biggest challenge, frustration or problem you’ve been struggling with?”

What happens if you say YES when you mean to say NO?

If you mean to Say NO and Say YES, then there may be consequences for you!

Say NO

Say No when you mean it

Its really interesting to think about why we do this (and I think most of us do to some extent)

  • Maybe we are people pleasers?
  • Maybe we want to be liked?
  • Could we be afraid  of the consequences?
  • Most likely, we are mind-reading what people would say or do?

And what are the consequence when we don’t say no?

  • Maybe we feel uncomfortable
  • Anxiety kicks in when we are not being ourself – has this happened to you?
  • Then we can lose confidence, end up in a vicious circle and then start saying yes even more!

Watch the short video below and then read the tips underneath that will make you think and perhaps do things differently.

If any of this sounds familiar to you and you want to start to say no, here are some things that you could do:

  • Stop and think about when you do it
  • Say to the person, let me have a think about it
  • Take a step back and think about why you are doing it and whether it’s in line with your values and being yourself
  • Ask yourself what’s important to you about being you
  • Say no if that’s what you’ve decided, explain the reasons and how saying yes is making you feel. You can always find a great way of saying it!
  • Move on

If the person is unhappy, then maybe you need to move on from them???? – Just saying -and I know it depends who they are.

You could also take some responsibility for having said yes in the past and the person may well be confused.

How about saying something like this – “I’ve always wanted to have a great relationship with you and I haven’t always been totally honest with myself and have said yes when instinctively I have wanted to say no. I’ve realised now what I’m doing and I apologise for any confusion I’m causing. I hope you understand and that we can still have a good relationship”

Enjoy reflecting on this week’s blog! If you want some support to make changes, give me a ring on 07973 635102 or get in touch here http://bit.ly/talktoDrB

See you next week!

Expectation – Good or bad?

expectations become reality

Expectations become Reality

Expectation – good or bad?

I’m going to be controversial.

We want results in life – right?

And is it ok to have what we want – right?

Great Relationships, Wealth, Health, Business or career success, Fun, Happiness, Anything else that we want

Some people believe that expectation leads to sadness and disappointment and I sort of get that, but if you are just leaving things to chance in case you get disappointed, then you are not in charge of your life- after all, your thoughts become your reality so let’s expect good things to happen!!!

Some Questions

Q.Have you ever noticed that the results that you get are directly related to your expectation of what is going to happen?

Q.Have you ever heard that “what you get is what you focus on”?

Q.And could you change your thoughts so that you are fully focused, have amazing goals and take the action needed?

I’ve been thinking about what we need to do to get what we want and have come up with these for you which are for your consideration ?

  • Develop a great emotional state
  • Have an expectation of getting what you want
  • Create goals that are specific and in your mind all of the time
  • Have empowering beliefs in yourself and  your ability to create the life that you want
  • And then take action!

Watch the video where I am at a business show and have an expectation of interacting with people to get a number of new clients that I can help to get success and fulfillment. And then have a think about what might be stopping you from doing this to get something that you want. And leave comments below or get in touch with me

What might be stopping you?

  • A lack of goals?
  • A lack of self belief?
  • A belief that you are not in charge of your life?
  • A negative emotional state?

All of these things that stop you or could be improved can be actioned by accessing a free consultation with me as a starting point.

The real questions are – do you want it enough? Are you worth it?

Until next week, set an expectation and let me know how it goes.

One Effective Way to Deal with Anxiety

Anxiety can be disabling and cause you to get stuck

Let go of Anxiety

Planning helps anxiety

I’ve had quite a lot of phone calls recently from people who are feeling anxious. Sometimes they are on medication and have tried many ways to reduce the anxiety but it doesn’t seem to be doing the trick.

While it may be controversial to many who think that it is a medical condition and can’t be solved simply, I believe that it is easy to solve in many cases. After all, my experience as a GP versus how I help people now says that this is the case for many! Tad James, the founder of the American Board of NLP, says:

“Anxiety is a sign that the unconscious mind is not really focusing on what it really wants”

People with anxiety often have reasons or excuses as to why they can’t do what they really want and therefore become anxious. People also “label themselves” as anxious people and this doesn’t help as they then live their life expecting to be anxious. And they find it difficult to make decisions.

What if everyone could design their future by letting go of unhelpful and limiting things from the past and become happy??

Now there’s a thought!

Well that’s what I can help with, so watch the video below and click here to download the pdf of my book which discusses how to set goals and create your future. It’s called Mindset for Business Success and equally applies to Mindset for Life Success.

If you think that the anxiety in your life, or someone who you know, is causing you, or them, to be stuck and unhappy, click here to get in touch and organise a free consultation so I can help.

After all, we only have one life and I want to help you live it!

Until next time, keep happy,

Is Your Values Level Thinking at the Right Level or Not?

Is Your Values Level Thinking at the Right Level or Not?

Thinking at the right level

Fitting your thinking to your environment

When I begin working with a client I’m always curious to find out what level of thinking they are doing and whether or not that level has the ability to get them to their goals in business, career and/or life.

Values level thinking is about how people think in different environments and how they adapt their thinking to suit their environments. There are numerous levels, click here to access a pdf which summarises them.

One of the main things values level thinking identifies, I whether you are on an even or an odd level. Even numbered levels are analysed as sacrificing yourself. For example, you against what you think/believe to just do what you are told, to follow society rules or for the good of the group. The odd number levels are considered as independent levels where you fight against the competition and want to be the best or you are able to be totally flexible in your behaviour depending on the environment that you find yourself in. And it’s really interesting!

Watch my video below and read the PDF – find out what your main level of thinking is and if you want to change how you think to get success, click here to get in touch and book a FREE consultation.

Is your level of thinking useful for you in terms of achieving your goals? Let me know if you want to discuss it and find out if you need to change. Call me on 07973 635102 or 01656 347027.

If you are wondering what my levels are, when I sat down and thought about it a few months ago I discover I was more in the VL6 than I wanted to be. Since this discovery I have purposely worked on increasing my VL5 and reduce my VL6 and its working really well for my business!

Until next time – keep thinking,

What happens When You Don’t Take Time Out

Taking time out

Taking time out became the topic for this video as I talked to my videographer – Chris Davies from Colour Black Productions – during our most recent filming session of my Prescriptions for Success videos.

We’d both become very busy as a result of raising our profile and the conversation was about how, or should, we be taking time off to reflect. We realised that taking time out, allows you to plan, reflect, congratulate yourself and keep an eye on your journey towards your goals. If you don’t take the time, you can become a victim of “busyness” and lose sight of where you are heading and forget how far you have come.

One of the main reasons for people seeking coaching and mastermind group support is to be able to take that time out and regain focus of their path to success and their goals. The results of doing this are absolutely enormous! The focus and consistency it provides become what you do! And that is what gets you the results.

Watch the video below within which I discuss this further. If you would like to escape the “busyness” and re-focus on your gals, you can click here to fill in a form for a FREE consultation.

If you are looking for an easy and quick fix, I would suggest committing to taking half an hour a day to plan or reflect on your day and what the next one will bring – it can be very empowering (and also calming).

Make sure that your plans line up to what you want in your life and let me know the effects the time-out has and if it empowers you.

If you are struggling with this concept and don’t know what to do, call me on 07973 635102 or 01656 347027 and we can chat it through and work out a path for you.

Until next week, enjoy your time-out,

Dr. Bridget

Comparing Your Brain to a Car Engine – A Useful Metaphor?

Comparing Your Brain to a Car Engine

Complicated Brain?

Complicated wiring?

Do you ever get frustrated with yourself? Or the way you use your brain to think and get the results you want?

Do you ever get frustrated with your car? – I’ve had my car for over a year and it’s far more complicated than my previous one and I’m not really using it to its full potential!

In fact, I’ve only just found out how to use the Sat Nav, up until recently I continued to use my old one above the built in system. Which has resulted in people thinking I’m weird! Being considered weird doesn’t really bother me because I like to be different but it’s a bit frustrating to own a car I don’t really know how to use!

So, like the car, are we not using our minds to our full potential because we don’t 100% know how to use them. Watch my video below where I discuss this metaphor in more detail.

If you would like help understanding more clearly how yours works (your brain not your car!) when it is being used to process information and obtain results, just click here and fill out a form for a FREE consultation. You too can become a brain mechanic and reach your full potential!

Here’s the key message (no pun intended) – if you don’t master your brain and the way you think, you’ll get results that aren’t what you want!

If you want to make a difference to your life, your business or your career, you need to stream line your thinking to help you avoid brain breakdowns.

If you agree and need support to do just this, give me a call on 01656 347027 or 07973635102 to start simplifying your life and using your brain to its full potential!

See you next week,

Do You Have Internal Conflict? This is one of the causes

One of the most common causes for internal conflict is something called PARTS ( in NLP terminology)

Mental Conflict

Internal Conflict

Just like you, I have faced internal battles. I remember sitting in front of my computer with this battle in my head going “part of me wants to be successful but part of me wants to do nothing at all”. I’d just started my NLP coaching business and I was struggling. Luckily, I was able to resolve this issue with my coach quite quickly.

Now, it is my role to help people with this internal struggle, and I want to share the cause for this common problem with you and raise awareness of this solvable problem.

In NLP, this conflict is known as “Parts”, because it is as if we have two parts to ourselves, which want different things. It usually arises from a significant negative emotional event which is either one big event or several small ones fairly close together.

For example, a recent client found herself in this battle after having just been made redundant following a complaint, losing her dad about the same time and having one of her children spend a week in hospital with a serious illness. All these negative events had caused part of her to steer away from her want to be successful in her new business, and focus on the want of some peace in her life. That is when she came to me for help.

I helped her put the conflict to rest and focus on what she really wanted.

“Parts” have their own personality and are generally formed to help protect you, but in doing so, they can cause conflicts with other parts of your brain – a sort of Mental Tug of War.

In this week’s Prescription for Success video below, I discuss ‘parts’ and the effects internal conflict can have.

If you want to talk about any type of internal conflict that may be stopping you from gaining success in your life or your business, then give me a call on 07973 635102 or 01656 347027. Or click here to fill out a form and I’ll be in touch very quickly.

If you are interested in this topic and NLP, I run NLP Practitioner courses, where you can learn how to not only resolve this issue for yourself, but for others too. Click here for more info on my NLP Practitioner courses.

Part of me would like to keep writing the blog and part of me wants to get some lunch so, until next time, go for what you want in life!

Don’t stress it!

stress-blogStress is extremely common. It can have physical and psychological effects which generally ‘bring you down’.

Life can be stressful. Whether it’s work, family or money worries, we all have a lot going on in our lives, so it’s no surprise we feel burnt out from time to time. But stress is not good for our emotional state.

Generally, people don’t take measures to reduce stress.  And whilst you can’t stop stress completely, you can learn how to notice the signs and help yourself overcome it. Here are my top tips:

  1. Deep breaths

If you are feeling completely overwhelmed, being able to take your mind out of the situation even for a few minutes can help you relax and gain clarity. When we are anxious or stressed our breathing becomes quick and shallow. Give your breathing your full attention, concentrating on each breath in and out. Take your time to breath in deeply for a count of 7, hold and breath out for a count of 11. Repeat this process until you feel more calm.

  1. Be kind to yourself

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Our inner voices can be mean and hurtful. It’s important to recognise this and ensure you are positively reinforcing yourself and how you feel. Treat yourself with kindness, negative thoughts are extremely unhelpful and can do more damage. Tell yourself you’re in control and you’re able to deal with the situation!

  1. Don’t allow yourself to become a victim

Things happen that are out of our control, but by asking “why me?” or “what have I done to deserve this?” only places yourself as a victim. This increases stress and suggests you are unable to change the situation. Instead, recognise this negative thing has happened but tell yourself you are able to turn it around and change it.

  1. Say ‘No’

Not wanting to say no to people is very common. A lot of people have a problem with it as they don’t want to upset someone or let them down. But sometimes you have to put yourself before others. It is impossible to please everyone and trying to do so is a fast track to stress. By saying ‘no’ you are not being selfish, you are just looking after yourself and your mental health. Be honest with people and they will understand.

If you are struggling with stress and feeling unhappy, contact me and I’ll help you overcome your anxiety and emotional state, allowing you to find happiness and at peace with yourself. Click here to book a FREE consultation or call me on: 07973 635102

Why do we lose our motivation? And what can we do to recover it?

Why do we lose our motivation?

Motivation and values

Find your motivation!

Not feeling motivated? This post is for you.

I recently realised that I was struggling with my motivation, particularly regarding my business and health, and this caused a bit of what I call “flip-flopping”! So, this week I have decided to focus on motivation and help you make sure that you are fully motivated in all areas of your life and in particular, the ones that are most important to you.

What is motivation?

Motivation is driven by our values, which we hold on an unconscious level. And our values can be affected by our beliefs. This means that as we grow and experience situations, positive and negative, it can change our values, which isn’t always useful.

My business values used to be Intrigue, Interest, Fun and Purpose. Although they felt OK, there wasn’t much movement in them to make me want to take action. Whilst I do have a successful business, there is also room for it to grow and allowing me to reach many more people!

I realized I needed to do something about this and set about changing my values. To do this I had to start with the limiting beliefs that were supporting my values. Once I changed those beliefs, with the help of my coach, my values changed and felt so much more suited to my businesses and me. And most importantly, my motivation is back and I am taking more action!

My business’ values are now Determination, Fun, Achievement and Purpose. Because I’ve got something as strong as determination at the top of my motivators, I’ve stopped doing the “flip-flopping” and am very determined!

Watch the video below where I discuss my motivation. If you are feeling demotivated, then get in touch today – just click here.

Are you fully focused and motivated? If not, what is that be costing you, emotionally and financially?

Give me a ring on 01656 347027 or 07973 635102 to book a FREE consultation with Dr. Bridget and start your journey of discovery and success.

Until next time, keep that motivation up!
