Why hope matters

Hope matters

Why does hope matter?

When I first came across this concept about ‘Why hope matters’ in an article I was reading, I was a little unsure about it.  The reason for my uncertainty was that I think that using words like ‘try’, ‘maybe’, ‘wish’ or ‘hope’,  isn’t very positive or effective. This is because our unconscious mind thinks ‘it might not happen’ or ‘it doesn’t really matter’.

In this week’s Prescription for Success I share with you some really interesting insights into ‘why hope matters’  when it comes to creating your future reality.  Watch the video and consider below your attitude and stance when it comes to ‘hope’.

Someone who is hopeful is someone who is radically realistic.

I can never decide whether I’m a ‘glass half empty’ or a ‘glass half full’ type of person. I think of myself as being really positive but I do also consider what the obstacles might be and then mitigate against them.  In the article it  actually stated that someone who is hopeful looks at obstacles and makes plans to get around them. Whew – that’s a relief!

It’s also reassuring that leaders inspire hope in both themselves and others and it gives them their purpose.

Ask yourself:

Are you a ‘High Hoper’?

‘High hopers’ take action, they withstand discomfort or pain, they are equipped for diversity. Hope gives us drive and is goal directed.

There are three things that ‘High Hopers’ have:

  1. Destination – they have highly developed goals.
  2. Route – they know how they are going to get to their goals.
  3. Means of Transport – they know how they are going to do it,  how they are going achieve their goals.

Whereas “Low Hopers’ tend to generalise about their destination so they may know where they are going but are unclear about it . They may have an idea about how they are going to get there but are vague about their actions.

So I want to ask you which would you rather be – a ‘High Hoper’ – ‘Low Hoper’ or maybe somewhere in the middle.

Think about whether you are:

  • clear about your destination;
  • clear about your route;
  • and clear about the means of transport.

If you are not clear about any of these and your really want to be a ‘High Hoper’ and a high achiever then get in touch or give me a call on  07973 635102 as there are lots of things that can get in your way and I’m really skilled in getting rid of those for you.

Do You Know How your Values are Changing?

Are your Values changing?

values

Have your values changed?

I expect you have been trundling along through life in a relatively stable manner and have suddenly found that you have changed. This is because we have been in a crisis where our behaviour has been changed by the presence of the virus and the rules that we have been given to work with. To be honest I think we have had a shock and we need to review our motivators for our life and business.

Our motivators are at an unconscious level and are called values. They are surrounded by beliefs which support the existence of the values. So if our beliefs change , then they change.

Have a watch of the video and I’ll explain more below it:

Our values drive our behaviours and also our emotions. If we are heading for our goal and our values change, then it’s possible that you won’t get your goals. Also if they have changed then maybe we need different goals. They are interlinked.

You may never have elicited your values formally before so I’ve given you a tool to do this which you can access here. Remember that they will be different for different parts of your life. For instance, what’s important to you about your business will be different to whats important to you about your leisure time.

Once you have elicited them, have a think about whether they are useful for your goals or not.

Also have a think about whether your current environment and beliefs have changed your values.

You may think its a good idea to talk to me about this really important topic and if so contact me here

Until next week

Is your “Story” Working for You

What is your “Story”

Hello.

Story

Your Story

We all have a “story” which is what we consider to be our reality. The things that we tell ourselves and the internal dialogue that goes on in our head. It consists of stories that have been passed down to us from our parents , their parents, our colleagues and friends. And once we are born, these start to influence us and we get our core beliefs and values in place – usually by the age of 7-10.

(I’ve written an e-book on this which you can get here)

As we go through life we add to our story and change our beliefs and values as things happen around us and in our world. Maybe things happen to you in school, in relationships, in work or in business and those things change your story. Watch the video below and have a think about the question below it.

So, as you think about it now, does your story work for you or not? Does it enable you to reach your goals, get our of your comfort zone, and get what you want in life? Or does it reduce your ability to do what you want to do, lower your mood and leave you feeling frustrated?

Does it affect your well- being? Anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt are all emotions that can keep us stuck and if we let go of them, then we can create a new story which works for us – after all, we only have one life, don’t we?

Write down any thoughts that you have about what is working for you and what isn’t.  Start a journal about this if you haven’t got one already and maybe have one page for what works and one for what doesn’t work. Then you can really reflect on it.

How to change your story

  • Read the e-book
  • Find some positive people that will help you have a positive story that you really want rather than people who lower your moods ( mood hoovers) and keep you stuck in an un-useful emotional state.
  • Set some compelling goals and take actions towards getting those
  • If  you can’t  find these people or can’t get your goals, get in touch so you get a story that you want – a new story that leaves you feeling motivated, happy and able to achieve anything.

Remember – you only have one life- let me help you get that right!
